Pharmacy Technician Program
Course Description: The Pharmacy Technician Training program prepares students to work under the supervision of licensed pharmacists and other healthcare providers. Pharmacy Technicians’ responsibilities include collecting, organizing, and evaluating patient information. They also perform administrative duties in addition to preparing and dispensing pharmaceutical drugs as well as maintaining inventory. Pharmacy Technicians work in hospitals, pharmacies, insurance companies, nursing homes, and pharmaceutical companies. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Standard Occupational Classification Code (SOC 29-2052). This is 147 hours of didactic, 72 hours of laboratory, and 160 externship hours, total clock hours of 379. Upon completion of the program, applicants are qualified to apply for registration through the California Board of Pharmacy. The National Health Career Association (NHA) and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exams are optional. There are no prerequisites for this program.

Upon successful completion, student will be able to
Collect, organize, and evaluate patient information for accuracy
Prepare medication orders, inventory, stock shelve, and fill prescriptions.
Perform aseptic technique in a horizontal LAH and prepare IV piggyback order.
Compute pharmaceutical calculations, reconstituting sterile drugs, and proper storage of medications.
Compound suspensions, suppositories, capsules, and ointments.

o All applicants must present a valid State issued Identification.
o You must have a social security number.
o Proof of High School Graduate/GED or a degree higher than High School Diploma.
o Felony, drug, theft, and certain convictions are not allowed. Background check, and drug screening required.
o Physical exam, TB screening, and immunization as required by externship site.
